                Merbabu is of type Strato volcanoes ( see Volcanic ) is geographically located at 7.5 ° S and 110.4 ° ​​East . Wekas ​​is the last village to the summit which takes approximately 6-7 hours . Path wekas a short track so there is rarely stretched flat trajectory . Post II is a place that is open and flat , the usual set up some dozens of tents . On Saturdays , Sundays and holidays Post II is widely used by teens to camp . So in these days many people who trade the food . In this area there is a water source that is channeled through large pipes are accommodated in a bathtub .
From the Post II there is a path that leads to a dead end river as source of water for surrounding communities Wekas ​​to the surrounding villages . This path follows the flow of water along the banks of the ravine pipe that leads into the river below the crater . There are two streams that make up a very steep waterfall stratified , so that it becomes an incredible view of the background set the peak - the summit of Mt . Merbabu .
After heading the second track begins to open up to meet with the Kopeng line crossing above the post V ( Watu Write ) , Kopeng path . From this junction heading towards the helipad only takes 15 minutes travel time . The journey continues with a very steep incline passing along the ravine on the left and right . Selo village is situated between Mt. Merbabu & Mt. Merapi.
In Selo, there are some inns.

1. From Pasar (Market) of Selo, walk to the village bordering with the forest.  There is modest bathroom, mosque and a warung (small shop). In the Javanese month of Sapar, there is a ritual ceremony, the villagers give a traditional offering in the spring, as it provided a good life to them.
2. Climbing from this side, the climbers can always see the beautiful view of Mt. Merapi and Mt. Lawu on their back.
From shelter I-Balong, shelter II-Pentur and shelter III. The climbers can walk leisurely under the shadow of big forest trees. From shelter IV up to summit, there are savannah and some flowers like a special kind of Edelweiss, named The Snowy Edelweiss. The most Tiring trek is the climbing to this shelter.
The shelter V is the peak of Kentong Songo. The climbing from the south route takes around 6 hours time.
It is advised to the mountaineers, the best way is to climb Mt. Merbabu from the North, Tekelan village and descend in Selo. Afterwards, depends to availability of time and energy, climb over Mount Merapi.
